Raising Funds for The Oxygen Works: Charity Golf Day & Raffle

On 25th September, teclan is proud to host its first-ever Charity Golf Tournament to raise much-needed funds for The Oxygen Works. This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a day out on the course, with all proceeds going toward supporting a charity that provides innovative, holistic health and wellbeing therapies for our local community.

Golf Tournament Details

Our tournament will take place at Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club in the exciting Texas Scramble Format, inviting teams of four to compete for a range of prizes, including:

🎯 Nearest the Pin
🏆 Trophies for the Winning Team

Entry costs £300 per team of four, with bacon rolls and refreshments provided on arrival to kick-start your day.

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or simply looking to have some fun while supporting a great cause, this is a day not to be missed!

Charity Raffle

If you can’t make it to the tournament, you can still get involved and support The Oxygen Works by entering our Charity Raffle. With tickets priced at just £1 each, you have the chance to win one of 11 fantastic prizes, including:

A fourball at the Struie Course at Royal Dornoch (worth £360, donated by Monsternet).
A signed Ross County FC football, donated by the club.
A £100 Amazon voucher, courtesy of ERG.
A laptop bag and external hard drive, donated by Inverness Computer Centre.

Join the Million Steps for Mikeysline Challenge 2024!

For the fifth consecutive year, the teclan team and our friends in the business community (both locally and nationally!) are gearing up to take millions of steps to support Mikeysline. We invite you to lace up your walking shoes and join us in this meaningful initiative!

Why We Started

Back in 2020, the global pandemic forced us indoors, limiting our activities and interactions with nature. Many of us found ourselves exercising less and missing out on the rejuvenating effects of fresh air. Recognising the importance of outdoor activity for mental and physical health, teclan launched an initiative to get people moving again. Through daily walking and running, we rediscovered the joy and benefits of being active. But we didn’t stop there — we decided to turn this positive change into a force for good by supporting a wonderful local charity: Mikeysline.

About Mikeysline

Founded in 2015, Mikeysline was born out of the tragic loss of two young friends, aiming to prevent suicides and offer support to those in need. Founded in memory of Mikey Williamson and Martin Shaw, the charity provides a critical lifeline through its digital text line service, available every evening of the year. This confidential service offers peer support to anyone facing difficulties, no matter how big or small.

At the Hive Centre in Inverness and outreach Hives in Alness, Tain, Nairn, Balintore, Portmahomack, Skye, and Thurso, Mikeysline delivers one-on-one support for both adults and young people. They also extend their reach both online and to schools and workplaces, addressing the growing demand for mental health support. Your participation and donations are vital to helping Mikeysline continue its life-saving work.

The Million Steps Challenge

Here’s how it works: for every 10,000 steps walked, each participating team member pledges to donate £1 to Mikeysline. Our journey began in 2020 with ten teams, and each year more and more people have been taking part. Together, we’ve walked over 100 million steps and raised more than £20,000 for Mikeysline!

In 2020, the global pandemic caused us to retreat into smaller spaces, curb our travels and limit our outdoor exposure. For many people, this restriction meant less exercise and less time outside to rejuvenate in the fresh air.

As a team that values the well-being of our clients and our community, teclan decided to introduce an initiative to help us reclaim the outdoors. Through daily walking or running, we discovered immense benefits for both our mental and physical health. Furthermore, we chose to leverage this initiative to gather crucial support for a fantastic local charity, Mikeysline.

Supporting Mikeysline

Mikeysline, established in 2015, came into being following the tragic loss of two young friends, Mikey Williamson, and Martin Shaw, to suicide. The charity’s primary objective is suicide prevention, but support extends to anyone facing any issue, large or small. Mikeysline offers a digital text line service available every evening of the year, providing a safe, confidential platform for individuals to access peer support. At the Hive Centre in Inverness and outreach Hives in Alness, Tain, and Nairn, Mikeysline provides one-on-one support for adults and young people. This support is also extended to schools and workplaces. With rising requests for mental health support, your fundraising initiatives are essential for Mikeysline to continue life-saving work.

Our Challenge

The challenge is straightforward: For every 10,000 steps walked, participating team members commit to donating £1 to Mikeysline.

In both 2020 and 2021, ten teams took part, rising to twelve in 2022, in the effort to raise funds for Mikeysline. Over the past three years, we have collectively walked more than 100 million steps and raised around £15,000 for Mikeysline.

Million Steps For Mikeysline 2022

The past few years have been tough, with many people travelling as little as possible, to limit the spread of Covid-19. In 2020 this meant being cooped up in relatively small spaces, perhaps with a lack of fresh air and exercise. Because the teclan team care about our clients and our community, we decided to create a challenge to get us all outside walking or running. We also wanted to help a fantastic local charity raise some much needed funds.

“At Mikeysline, our ultimate aim is suicide prevention. We were established in 2015 following the suicides of two close friends within days of each other, Mikey Williamson and Martin Shaw, both aged 23. However, we don’t just support those in crisis, we are here for anyone, no matter the reason, no matter how big or small the issue. Our digital textline services which are available 365 evenings per year, provide an anonymous, safe, confidential way to access peer support, a listening ear from someone who understands what that person may be feeling, having their own lived experience of mental health issues. We also offer one to one support for adults and young people in the Hive Centre, Inverness and at our outreach Hives in Alness, Tain and Nairn as well as in schools and in workplaces. We are being contacted more than ever by local agencies, GPs and schools with referral requests to provide mental health support and as we are reliant on the generosity of the people to fund our services, we are so very grateful to everyone for their fundraising initiatives, which in turn helps Mikeysline save lives.”

During our inaugural challenge, we managed to collectively walk almost 30 million steps and raised £5,000 with the help of 9 other fantastic local teams! In 2021, we walked over 33 million steps and managed to raise £5,500!

We challenged local businesses to get involved too and walk a million steps for Mikeysline. For every 10,000 steps walked, team members pledged to donate £1. We were delighted by the enthusiasm of all involved and are so grateful to everyone who took part! We are so happy to share that the challenge is back and you can get involved!

Lockdown has greatly affected our fundraising as so many large annual events have been cancelled but we are so very grateful to everyone for their fundraising initiatives which will enable us to keep the service operational”
